Mane tutorial for My Little Pony Plushies by Meowplease Mane tutorial for My Little Pony Plushies by Meowplease
This is a tutorial on how to make your own mane pattern, I used :iconvoodoo-tiki: 's pattern as an example but you can use other variations.

Here is a great MLP Eye tutorial! [link]

Often times, especially with heavier/fluffier fabrics, it helps to enlarge the mane shape a little further (it's hard to say how much exactly, since ponies will be all different sizes, but it shouldn't be a huge difference) after the scaling step to compensate for when it's turned right-side out and stuffed after sewing.

Also be sure that you make a test pony before you are dead set on your pattern, this way you work out all of the kinks before it is all finalized!

If you are struggling with the tail use the same method! c:

How does it work for manes that are different on each side?
Like Cadence and Fleur Dis Lis? I only ask because I can't get my head around those.

Loving the tutorial but I do have a rather derp question. How would you go about attaching the mane to the actual pony? Do you leave the seam alone the back of the neck open and sew it closed with the mane in-between it? And I have a similar question about the fringe part of the mane.

Here is a link for it![link] ... You've got to know the "Ladder stitch" which can be found using similar demonstration to this tutorial... found at this [link]

You sew the parts of the mane separately and stuff them, then hand sew the sewn main onto the head of the pony, no opening seams or anything, and what do you mean by the fringe part?

Fringe is another word for bangs or forelock in the UK

Oh okay, sorry for the misunderstanding c:
I usually make the bags using the ear/forehead section of VooDoo Tiki's pattern, I can make a tutorial for that too, I think it would be a good idea.

How would you do this for fluttershy's hair? Because it folds over at the top.

Yes, hers I made a pattern that is a long swirl then it will fall naturally to the side.

Well her hair will be straight and since you cant get that off of a picture like the tutorial shows, you have to make a straight piece that curls at the end and it will drape over to the one side needed.

I had the same problem with other patterns (a fish one I made actually, the fins) as far as the size goes. For my pattern I had to triple the size of the fins to get them to look right. I never would have thought of doing manes this way though, this is great! Now just for trial and error on styles and sizes. Not sure how big I want to make my ponies yet, hehe.

Im glad to hear that this will work well for you! c: The only time that it will be a tad difficult will be with hair styles such as Fluttershy and Rarity because their hair flips and curls. I recommend using wire for curls and to make many rough drafts with basic paper so you can see how the shapes would turn out! c:

Yeah, i figured curls and flips would be most difficult.. the pony I'm making for my daughter wont have that problem, unless she changes her mind again, I'm just waiting on the design for my niece's pony, and knowing her.. she'll pick out something that will have all flips and curls and everything in between, hehe.
